The Astrological Signs: The following pages contain an overview of the archetypes of the astrological signs. The energies of each will be qualified by the planet and house that contain it, and we all have all twelve, somewhere in our chart.

Aries In the northern hemisphere, Aries marks the Spring Equinox, the first day of spring when green life pushes through without thought, ready to grow.

Taurus The fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) are the most creative signs, and Taurus is very rich in resources, talents and gifts.

Gemini Gemini is ruled by Mercury (Hermes) is best known as the messenger between mortals and gods.

Cancer The crab’s natural environment is both land and water, and so with Cancer who needs to be part of the real world, with its responsibilities, bills and commitments, while also needing the time to nurture imagination, dreams and other deep watery needs.

Leo The sign of Leo is about creative self- expression, the ego at its pinnacle, man at the top of the pyramid.

Virgo There are many myths associated with Virgo, but according to the ancient sources, the gifts she gives are purity and grace, a natural mastery of words, a discriminating intellect, skillful creativity, is bashful, humble and tuned into the mysteries of nature.

Libra Aries is the instinctual sense of self, Libra is the other. The sun begins at the equator in Aries and is once again at the equator in Libra, but instead of sunrise, we have sunset.

Scorpio With Scorpio comes a willingness to face the dark for the sake of inner transformation, empowerment, and coming back to the light a new person.

Sagittarius What is life about in the broadest possible sense? That is the quest for Sagittarius. Having gone to the depths of Scorpio, now the horizons beckon...

Capricorn The Capricorn symbol is a sea goat with the front half of the body a goat and the back half what looks like a combination of a tail and serpent. Like this goat, the sign of Capricorn is very mysterious, much more to it than meets the eye.

Aquarius As if in reaction to the established Capricorn values of tradition and authority, Aquarius wants to upgrade. But as the saying goes, Aquarius loves humanity but hates people.

Pisces This sign is often seen with iconoclastic gifts that gain public recognition. Pisces carries a little bit of each of the previous signs and feels everything, and is a psychic sponge.

And now for some number magic.

The Zodiac is a band of twelve signs that fall on the ecliptic, which is the path the sun follows as the earth revolves around it. Modern Western Astrology does not actually have a direct correlation between the constellations and the signs, but is based on the seasons of the year and defined by the solstice and equinox points. There is also some deeper wisdom here that correlates to mankind’s current level of consciousness. and associated with the number four as an innate symbol of the psyche.

The Pythagoreans highly esteemed the number four. The cross or square naturally represents fourness. Two pairs of opposites make fourness.

The number four abounds in the esoteric and arts of divination. For example: the four blood types, Plato's four dimensions, Carl Jung’s types, the four kingdoms (mineral, plant, animal and human), four number calculations (adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing), the four seasons, four gospels, and many more.

The Maya thought that there were only four numbers. They are 1,2,3 and 4. If you add them sequentially (in the “Pythagorean manner”) 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10, and from this comes the entire decimal system.

It is also significant the 4 + 4 = 8, which is the number of transformation and of Pluto and Scorpio. There are eight gates of energy in Tai Chi, eight gates of Zen practice, and eight gates to Paradise in Islam.

Triangles, squares and circles are three fundamental shapes that are integral to sacred geometry, and also to astrology. So, the number three is also very important. There are three modalities (cardinal, fixed and mutable) each with four points corresponding to the four elements (fire, earth, air and water). 3 + 4 = 7 a sacred number. 3 x 4 = 12, and there are 12 houses and signs with astrology. Both the numbers 12 and 7 are also very important in defining astrological cycles.
