Gemini is ruled by Mercury (Hermes) who is best known as the messenger between mortals and gods. Ancient Greeks also regarded him as the god of commerce and trading – not to mention the god of thieves, cunning and travel.

Key Words: communicator, quick, clever, witty, adaptable, languages, light, playful, changeable, scattered, curious, knowledge, different/deeper realm of consciousness, versatile, depression (from conflict/projection of two halves).

In the myth of Pollux and Castor, the twin brothers had different fathers. Pollux was the son of Zeus himself, and thus immortal. Castor was the son of a mortal man and he could die. They loved each other deeply and were never apart. One day in battle, Castor was wounded and about to die. Pollux pleaded with his father Zeus to let him die with him so they could stay united, but instead of allowing Pollux to die, Zeus decided they could stay together by sharing Pollux’s immortality. But to do this, the brothers would have to forever alternate between light and dark, one day on Olympus and the next day in Hades.

This correlates to Mercury’s role as the messenger, he was the only god who regularly traveled between the realms, from Olympus, to earth, to Hades and back again. And so is the Gemini Twin characteristic of being able to travel all realms, understanding and having to integrate the spiritual with the material, masculine and feminine, reason and belief, intellect and emotion, and so on. Gemini’s experience extremes, see both sides, and can go into a brooding depression if the polarities are not recognized as two sides of the same coin.

From the perspective of now having gained security and resources for survival in Taurus, the Gemini stage can begin to develop the mind, look around at his surroundings, name, label, explore, communicate, be curious about what’s around the bend, using words rooted in personal and everyday experiences, the poet, the philosopher, just enjoying life.
